Rose water benefits for skin:

A healing hydrator:

Rose is suitable for all skin types and is especially beneficial for dry skin due to their moisturizing properties that soothe itchiness. Using rose in the form of an essential oil is the perfect way to moisturize the skin, protect it from moisture loss and keep the moisture barrier strong.

Rich in antioxidants:

The flower is rich in antioxidants that play an important role in strengthening skin cells, preventing cell damage and regenerating skin tissues. Antioxidants also neutralize free radicals which provides anti-aging benefits to the skin.

A wrinkle eraser:

On top of being rich in antioxidants, rose water and rose oil are rich in vitamin A and C, which helps with the skin’s aging. These vitamins serve to minimize the look of age spots on the skin and support collagen production, in addition to soothing the appearance of wrinkles.

A redness soother:

Rose also have anti-inflammatory properties that aid in reducing the appearance of skin redness. And as mentioned before, the moisturizing properties of rose support the soothing of skin irritation.

As opposed to rose essential oil that is extracted from rose petals, rose hip seed oil is produced from the little fruits that grow on rose plants. This oil is the only natural plant oil that contains the anti-aging ingredient retinol. This makes rose hip oil a fantastic substitute for retinol treatments because it's gentler on the skin while being just as effective.

Rosehip oil is excellent for calming skin inflammation, including eczema and extreme redness, due to its high level of fatty acids and antioxidants. If used consistently, rose hip oil has been demonstrated to retain hydration and a firm, youthful skin while also assisting with acne scarring.

The ideal balancer:

A balanced pH balance must always be maintained for healthy skin. Our skin's capacity to defend itself from environmental influences and infections declines if it is overly acidic or alkaline.

The pH balance of the skin is impacted by pollution, environmental pollutants, and sunlight. Luckily for us, the pH of rose resembles that of human skin, making it ideal for moisturizing the skin and adding anti-inflammatory properties to it without leading to pH imbalances. A rose water toner can also be swiftly and easily used before makeup or other skincare products.

Other uses for roses:

Besides the benefits of rose for skin, this flower is used for different purposes including hair care, aromatherapy, and tea infusions.

Rose water for hair:

Thanks to its antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, rose water moisturizes and nourishes the scalp while preventing excess oil and soothing irritation.

Rose for aromatherapy:

Rose oil benefits include easing pain, stress and anxiety.

One study proved that rose oil has physiological and psychological relaxation, analgesic, and anti-anxiety effects.

Another study proved that rose oil has a relaxing effect as it decreases the levels of blood pressure, heart rates, breathing rates, cortisol levels, and blood oxygen. The study that focuses on the effect of aromatherapy with roses on pain intensity, showed that patients that inhaled rose oil reported a major decrease in their pain intensity.

Rose-scented candles are also a good option to enjoy the fresh scent of roses and ease your anxiety. Enjoy your rose aromatherapy session while doing yoga or simply when chilling on your sofa.

Kalaat M’Gouna: The rose capital of Morocco

Kalaat M’Gouna rose valley in Morocco

Kalaat M’Gouna is a city in the Drâa-Tafilalet region of Morocco that is famous for its beautiful roses, hence its nickname "The valley of the roses." In the city, there is a factory for the distillery of roses, where rose-based cosmetic products like rose essential oil and rose water are produced.

The harvest of roses happens in April and May of each year when women start picking the precious rose petals at dawn. Around a thousand tons of rose flowers are collected and sent to the distillery factory to extract the essential oil and water. During May of each year, the Kelaat M’Gouna Rose Festival is held for a week to celebrate the rose season, welcome visitors, and allow them to explore the beauty of the region, the hospitality of the people, and the wide range of rose products (oil, rose water, rose perfume, cosmetics…).
